Ishima Adventure Trekking and Annual Hatsue Ceremony Day Trip
Discover the culture of Tokushima's remote island
[Terms of Application]
Foreign nationals only (including those living in Japan)

Hatsue Ceremony Ishima is said to be an island of God floating on the sea.
The Hatsue Ceremony is held every year on February 18 at the Kannon Hall where Kuya Shonin, a Buddhist priest, carved and enshrined the eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu (Goddess of Mercy) about 1000 years ago.
It is an important annual event for the islanders to celebrate the beginning of the New Year and their first meeting with Kannon.
The road leading to the Kannon-do is lined with Jizo statues in the midst of nature and the Noobe marshland, which contrasts beautifully with the open sky.
